Top Legislator Li Peng Meets Japanese Political Party Leaders
Li Peng, chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, Friday had separated meetings with Kazuo Shii, chairman of the Presidium of the Central Committee of Communist Party of Japan (CPJ), and Takako Doi, leader of Japanese Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Li in the meeting expressed appreciation for CPJ and SDP, whichadvocate that Japan should take the path of peace and development and adhere to the correct stance on such issues of history and Taiwan. Li hoped that CPJ and SDP will continue their active role in maintaining and developing the Sino-Japanese relationship.
On inter-party relations, Li said that the Communist Party of China (CPC) is willing to develop new relationship with CPJ and SDP in line with independence, self-reliance, full equality, mutual respect and non-interference in the other's internal affairs.
Shii said that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic ties between Japan and China and the 4th anniversary of the normalization of ties between CPJ and CPC. He told Li that CPJ advocated to have serious retrospect of the aggression history of Japan and adhere to the One-China stance. CPJ is willing to make futher efforts for the growth of Japanese-Chinese ties in the future, he said.
Doi said that Li's visit played an significant part in developing Japanese-Chinese relationship. She said that SDP is willing to increase its exchanges with CPC.
