Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat has unconditionally accepted the call of U.S. President George W. Bush for a ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinians, a Palestinian National Authority (PNA) statement said early Friday.
"Palestinian leadership and President Yasser Arafat are committed to the peace process and we are committed to the implementation of U.N. Resolution 1402," said the statement obtained by Xinhua.
It added that the PNA is also committed to implementing the Tenet plan and the Mitchell report "as well as the Oslo agreement that we signed with the previous Israeli governments."
"We must not be blamed when we face the military aggression that has been carried out against our people, cities and refugee camps. We are defending ourselves," the statement added.
The statement welcomes "without any conditions President Bush's appeal to (Israel) to halt incursions into the Palestinian territories, end settlements, closure and siege and immediately withdraw from the Palestinian territories."
"From our side we are totally committed without any condition to President Bush's declaration," said the statement.
