The Chinese capital of Beijing, which has been chosen to host the 2008 Olympic Games, will open all the major projects to international bidders, a senior official said Thursday.

Jia Qinglin, secretary of the municipal committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), said at a meeting with representatives of 35 international companies that Beijing is expected to become a paradise for overseas investors now that China has entered the World Trade Organization and the city won the bid to host the 2008 Olympic Games.
He spoke highly of the "irreplaceable role" of these international firms in helping the city introduce advanced technology and management expertise.
At the end of last year, Beijing had 17,029 foreign-funded companies with a total contractual investment of 35 billion U.S. dollars. These firms now contribute 73.2 percent of the city's corporate income tax revenue.
Beijing to Open Bids for 2008 Olympics Projects
Construction and renovation of all 19 new Olympic venues will be open for public bidding worldwide and foreign companies are invited to compete, said the Mayor of Beijing Liu Qi.
Projects in Beijing's plans in preparation for the 2008 Olympic Games include the renovation of 14 existing sports venues, the development of the Olympic Park as well as other infrastructure and environmental protection facilities, all expected to bring billions of dollars to global investors.
