Preliminary Scheme of West-East Gas Pipeline Project Passes Examination

The preliminary scheme of the west to east natural gas transmission pipeline project has currently been finished and basically passed the examination of experts. The west-east gas pipeline project was started on April 27, 2001, with the completion of preliminary plan (A version) on September 27, 2001 and B version on December 5, 2001.

The preliminary scheme of the west to east natural gas transmission pipeline project has currently been finished and basically passed the examination of experts organized by the China West-East Gas Pipeline Company.

West-East Gas Pipeline Project

Material and Equips Corporation of China Oil & Gas Pipeline Bureau put forward optimization plan aiming at the transportation of steel pipe for west-east natural gas transmission project.

In term of the principle of economic optimization, they provided the scheme of engineering steel tube transportation, engineering material supplying and management system plan, the way to establish a steel pipe transfer station and antisepsis plants.

With a length of 3,900 kilometers, the pipeline snakes China's northern and western parts, causing a lot of difficulties for construction. An association for the program planning, jointly established by the China Petroleum Pipeline Engineering Corporation and Sichuan Petroleum Investigating and Designing Institute, is responsible for the main job of the west-east gas pipeline project.

Advanced technologies in construction

According to the scheme, X70, the most advanced steel material in China, is used for making pipelines, and the satellite remote sensing technologies are used for choosing routes of the pipelines. It shortens 150 kilometers and saves investment of more than 1 billion yuan by employing the means of "direct-through" in Nanhu Gobi Desert. It can fix the best lines and angles for pipelines to avoid being damaged with the satellite remote sensing technologies measuring earthquake fault zones. Ten gas--compressed stations are set up along the whole lines, of which 6 are gas turbines and 4, electrical ones. That is a pipeline with most gas-compressed stations and the largest of its kind. The power of single gas turbine reaches 29 MW, the biggest gas turbine group in China and the power of single electrical turbine, 22 MW, the biggest frequency conversion electrical turbine in China. The SCADA system is used to conduct remote supervision and data collection along the whole lines.
