A senior Kuwaiti official on Wednesday voiced opposition to using oil-producing oil as a weapon to pressure Israel into withdrawing from Palestinian territories, Kuwait's official KUNA news agency reported.
"We cannot use the oil as a means to exert pressures...It's a basic wealth for the people and we cannot think about using it as a means of pressure," Kuwaiti Defense Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah said.
Iraq's ruling Baath party on Monday called on Arab countries to use their oil power against Israel and the United States to ensure a withdrawal from Palestinian lands.
However, in Vienna, sources with the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries dismissed the proposal to use oil as leverage in the Middle East conflict as "totally out of the question."
