Chinese Defense Chief Meets Croatian President on Relations
Croatian President Stjepan Mesic and visiting Chinese Defense Minister Chi Haotian discussed relations on Wednesday between the two countries and issues of common concern.
Croatian President Stjepan Mesic and visiting Chinese Defense Minister Chi Haotian discussed relations on Wednesday between the two countries and issues of common concern.
During the talks, Chi, also Vice Chairman of China's Central Military Committee and a State Councilor, conveyed President Jiang Zemin's warm greetings and hearty wishes to Mesic. The president welcomed Chi's visit to Croatia.
Mesic said China has made important contributions to world and regional peace and he reaffirmed Croatia's consistent support for China's national unification and territorial integrity.
Croatia and China enjoy a good relationship, and cooperation between the two countries in various fields has been fruitful, Mesic said.
Croatia will open its doors to other countries, including China,and hopes to see further development of economic and trade ties between Croatia and China, Mesic said.
Chi said the Chinese government attaches great importance to developing Croatian-Chinese friendship and wishes the Croatian people and army well in their efforts to develop their countries.
A deep friendship bridges the people of China and Croatia although the two countries are separated by a great distance, Chi said.
China thanks Croatia for its support for China's national unification and the "One Country, Two Systems" policy on the Taiwan issue, Chi added.
Chi arrived here Monday on an official goodwill visit to Croatia.
