Chinese, Ugandan FMs Hold Talks in Beijing

Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan and the Third Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uganda James Wapakhabulo held talks Wednesday,and exchanged views on bilateral relations and other issues of shared concern.

Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan and the Third Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uganda James Wapakhabulo held talks Wednesday,and exchanged views on bilateral relations and other issues of shared concern.

Tang said China and Uganda enjoyed a long traditional friendship and have maintained favorable cooperation in the fieldsof hygiene, politics, trade and economic, and culture and education.

Tang expressed his appreciation to the Ugandan government for its adherence to the "One China" policy and its support of China in major international issues like human rights.

China and Uganda will soon observe the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1962, Tang said, noting that the Chinese side would like to make joint efforts with Uganda to push forward bilateral ties.

Wapakhabulo said Uganda and China have maintained sound political relations over the past forty years, and the two countries have also conducted reciprocal cooperation in various fields and have supported each other in international affairs.

China is a close friend of Uganda, said Wapakhabulo, voicing his gratitude to China for its long support for Uganda, and hopingto further strengthen and deepen the friendly cooperative relations with China.

Wapakhabulo started his China visit Tuesday at the invitation of the Chinese government.
