China Urges Israel to Withdraw Troops from Palestine

Wu Jiuhong, director of China's office in Palestine, Wednesday conveyed to the Palestinian side the Chinese government's and leaders' sympathy towards Palestinian President Yasser Arafat and related their concerns about Arafat's personal safety.

Wu said that China condemns Israel's incursion into Palestinianterritory, especially Israel's confinement of Arafat. China is going through various channels to urge Israel to immediately implement Resolution 1402 adopted by the United Nations Security Council and withdraw its troops from the Palestine-controlled areas as soon as possible.

China will continue to make efforts to reduce the current tensions in the Middle East, noted Wu.
