Do Not Confuse Anti-Terrorism With Destroying PNA: EU, Russia
The European Union (EU) and Russia urged Israel on Tuesday not to confuse the fight against terrorism with the act of destroying the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), and called for an immediate implementation of the U.N. Security Council resolution 1402.
The European Union (EU) and Russia urged Israel on Tuesday not to confuse the fight against terrorism with the act of destroying the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), and called for an immediate implementation of the U.N. Security Council resolution 1402.
Spanish Foreign Minister Josep Pique, whose country currently holds the rotating presidency of the European Union (EU), made the remarks at a news conference following a meeting between the troika of the 15-nation European bloc and a visiting Russian delegation led by Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov.
Pique also asked the Israeli government to back the missions of the special envoys from the EU, Russia, the United States and the United Nations.
Ivanov emphasized the importance of the U.N. Security Council resolution 1402, which calls for an immediate cease-fire and an Israeli withdrawal from the Palestinian-ruled territories.
Ivanov also warned of the consequences of destroying the PNA structure.
