Iran Urges Consensus on Using Oil as Weapon

Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi on Tuesday urged the Islamic countries to reach consensus on whether to use oil as a weapon, the official IRNA news agency reported.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) special session on terrorism in Malaysia's Kuala Lumpur, Kharazi was quoted as saying that he believes "the Islamic world has enough instruments to use."
Reacting to Iraq's call on Monday on Arab states to use oil as a weapon to punish countries supporting Israel and to halt the Israeli aggressions against Palestinians, the Iranian minister said that "if they decide to use oil as a weapon, it would be very effective."
The call could give rise to another soar in oil prices, which rose to their highest level in six months Monday due to traders' fears that tension in the Middle East could disrupt supplies.
