Chinese international Yu Genwei said Tuesday in Tianjin that he would strive for early recovery from knee injury to play in the upcoming 2002 World Cup finals startinglate next month.

Yu, also a forward with the club Tianjin Taida, picked up the injury at last round's league competition, tearing his ligament inthe joint of his left knee.
His injury has fed speculation that he might have to skip the premier soccer tournament, for which China qualified for the firsttime in its history.
The door, however, is not completely shut for the 26-year-old player as doctors said that Yu could return to training in three weeks if the treatment goes smoothly.
Despite being hospitalized, Yu continues to do some possible power training of his upper limbs and belly muscle, racing againsttime to maintain fine form.
China was drawn alongside Brazil, Costa Rica and Turkey in group C of the World Cup, which will be co-hosted by South Korea and Japan from May 31 to June 30.
