Sri Lankan Peace Talks to Be Held in Thailand
The Norwegian-brokered peace talks between Sri Lankan government and separatist Tamil Tiger rebels will be held in Thailand which is expected to take place inearly May, the official Daily News said on Saturday.

Norwegian Deputy Foreign Minister Vidar Helgensen Friday held talks with Thai Foreign Minister Surakiart Sathirathai in Bangkok on his one-day visit to Thailand. Following the discussions Thailand agreed to host the talks.
The exact dates and venue have not been finalized and these will be decided by the two parties. officials said.
Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Tyronne Fernando has written to hisThai counterpart and thanked the Thai government for their consentto host the talks.
The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) rebels had earlier requested to hold talks in neighboring India or Maldives due to the proximity but the two countries have turned down their request.
This is the second time that the peace talks will be held in a foreign country. The first was in Thimpu, Bhutan in 1985.
