Foreign Trade to Be Conducted According to WTO Rules-based Legislation: Minister

After China's entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO), the country's foreign trade has to be conducted according to WTO rules-based Chinese legislation, said Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (MOFTEC) Shi Guangsheng in Beijing Friday.

After China's entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO), the country's foreign trade has to be conducted according to WTO rules-based Chinese legislation, said Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (MOFTEC) Shi Guangsheng in Beijing Friday.

Shi made the remarks at a MOFTEC working session. "We should transform the provisions of relevant WTO agreements and protocols to those of domestic laws and regulations, and act in accordance with the laws and regulations," he said.

Shi said Chinese government departments and businesses should learn WTO rules and make good use of them. With the rise of international trade disputes, it's essential for China to apply WTO dispute settlement mechanism to safeguard its interests and rights, he said.

China should improve its foreign trade management substantiallyin the spirit of WTO rules after its accession to the WTO, he said.
