China Speeds Aid for Afghan Earthquake Victims
The Chinese government is speeding up aid supplies to earthquake victims in northern Afghanistan, said Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue here Friday.

Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji immediately offered China's sympathyand condolences to the Afghan people in a message to Hamid Karzai,chairman of the Afghan interim government, Zhang said.
Urgently needed aid materials worth 30 million yuan (about 3.6 million U.S. dollars) were being hurriedly prepared for Afghanistan, she noted.
Some of these materials had already been distributed to the earthquake-stricken area, she said.
The Red Cross Society of China has also offered the Afghan Red Crescent Society cash aid worth 50,000 U.S. dollars, and the Chinese government will continue to offer aid within its capacity according to the demand of the Afghan people.
