Chinese swimmers left Beijing Thursday for Moscow to compete in the upcoming world short-course swimming championships slated there April 3-7.
World champion Luo Xuejuan and world record holder Qi Hui led the 21-strong team for the bi-yearly short-course event.
Luo, who claimed two titles in women's 50 meters and 100m breaststroke events at last year's (long-course) world championships in Fukuoka, will compete in the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke events.
However, the 18-year-old who has suffered from stomachache and insomnia for over a month, admitted she is not in her peak form but vowed to win a title. "It's my first short-course world championships. Though I'm not in my best form, I will do my best to take a gold medal," she said.
The versatile Qi will have her eyes on the 200m and 100m breaststroke events, giving up her speciality of individual medleyevents. She won a bronze in the 200m individual medley in Fukuoka.
Defending champions Chen Hua in women's 400m freestyle and YangYu in women's 200m freestyle will also show up in the five-day event.
