Beijing Annual International Long Run Set for Saturday

Some 13,000 runners are expected to participate in the 2002 Beijing International Long Run and Spring Long Run on Saturday, organizers announced Thursday.

Some 13,000 runners are expected to participate in the 2002 Beijing International Long Run and Spring Long Run on Saturday, organizers announced Thursday.

A spokesman of the Beijing Sports Bureau said the annual event will start and finish at the Beijing Workers' Stadium.

Three distance categories are set for the race -- five kilometers, 10km and the Open Group designed for the National Sports-for-All Program. Some 10,000 people are expected for the Group.

Up to Wednesday, 2,418 participants had been entered, including109 overseas runners from 30 countries and regions. The deadline for entry is set for 30 minutes prior to the start of the race.

Teams organized by the event's sponsors the Beijing McDonald's Food Co. Ltd and the Stratus Technologies. Inc. will also compete in the annual race.
