Premier Zhu on Sino-ROK Ties, Encourages More Investment in China
Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji spoke highly in Beijing Thursday of the rapid development of bilateral ties and economic cooperation with the Republic of Korea (ROK) over the past decade during talks with Choi Sung-Hong, the ROK foreign and trade minister.

The rapid development of bilateral ties since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries a decade ago is an uncommon occurrence, Zhu said.

China and the ROK have more scope for economic cooperation since China joined the World Trade Organization, Zhu said.

He noted that both countries should, in the spirit of friendship and through negotiations, properly handle issues that may occur, in order to create better conditions for the healthy development of economic ties between the two countries.

Choi said that ROK is willing to comprehensively deepen the mutually beneficial cooperation with China by taking advantage of the opportunity to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

He briefed Zhu on the situation on the Korean Peninsular. Zhu said that China welcomes the upcoming visit of the ROK president's special envoy to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and supports the resumption of dialogue between the two sides.

China expects the ROK to continue its policy of easing up and being more relaxed with the DPRK, and also expects both sides to work together for peace and stability on the Korean Peninsular, Zhu said.

China does not have selfish interests in the Korean Peninsular issue, Zhu said, reiterating that China's stance on the issue has as always been clear and it will actively do whatever is necessary for the stability of the peninsular and reconciliation between the two sides.

China will continue its efforts, to the best of its ability, to maintain peace and stability on the peninsular, Zhu said.

Premier Encourages ROK Companies to Invest More in China
Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji said Thursday that China encourages entrepreneurs from the Republic of Korea (ROK) to invest more in China.

At a meeting with ROK participants in a Sino-ROK economic symposium in Beijing, Zhu said the business circles in the two countries are highly complementary and have many things to learn from each other.

He said businesses from both countries have a great potential for cooperation and their cooperation is in the basic interests of the people of both countries.

Noting that the ROK has become the China's second largest trade partner in Asia, Zhu said he believes the cooperative partnership between the two countries will grow even stronger.

He expressed hope that the business and media circles in the two countries will make joint efforts to push forward friendly cooperative relations.

Zhu said China is ready to strengthen cooperation with the ROK on environmental protection and expand bilateral cooperation to wider areas.

Premier Meets ROK Cultural Delegation
Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji met Nam Kung-Jin, Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Korea (ROK), here Thursday, who is heading a preparation committee for the Year of China-Korea National Exchange.

Sino-ROK ties had developed rapidly since the two countries established diplomatic relations 10 years ago, Zhu said, and their future lay under the direction of the cooperative partnership relations set jointly by Chinese President Jiang Zemin and ROK President Kim Dae-Jung in 1998.

Zhu spoke highly of the preparation work the ROK side has done for the Year of China-Korea National Exchange, which is held to mark the 10th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
