Macao Daily Urges US to Stop Interfering in China's Internal Affairs

Macao Daily News Thursday called on the United States to keep its commitments and stop interfering in China's internal affairs by using the Taiwan issue.
Recalling that both sides vowed to cherish their sound relationship during U.S. President George W. Bush's visit to China, the newspaper noted that the United States, conducted "a series of actions" that interfered in China's internal affairs and could have damaged Sino-U.S. relations.
It violated the three Sino-U.S. joint communiques for the U.S. to receive Taiwan's so-called "defense minister," said the leading newspaper in the special administrative region.
It went on to say that as everyone knows, the World Health Organization (WHO) is one of the United Nations special organisations whose membership is open only to sovereign states. " Taiwan, as part of China, has no qualification to participate in the WHO," it said.
The WHO has overruled proposals for Taiwan's participation in its assembly for five consecutive years since 1997. A similar proposal was again turned down by the WHO Executive Committee in January this year.
"This shows that China's stance on this issue has won the understanding and support of most countries," the paper said, warning the U.S. not to "act willfully."
The Taiwan issue can be solved completely by the Chinese themselves, the paper pointed out, adding "If so, the Sino-U.S. relations will take on a new aspect."
