At least 15 Israelis were killedand some 100 others wounded Wednesday evening in a Palestinian suicide bombing attack in a hotel in the northern Israeli coastal city of Netanya.
An Israeli official said that Israel would take a far-reaching response against Palestinian facilities for the deadly attack.
The explosion occurred around 19:30 local time (1730 GMT), when a Palestinian walked into the Park Hotel, where a lot of Israelis were holding a Passover party, and detonated an explosive device onhis body.
The wounded have been taken to nearby hospitals, some 20 in a serious condition, according to emergency personnel.
The suicide bomber was killed in the explosion, the first attackduring the Jewish holiday of Passover starting in the evening.
Police have sealed off the area to traffic and asked people not to approach the scene. Security forces were checking how the attacker succeeded in entering the city after security was beefed up for the holiday.
Netanya Mayor Miram Feyerberg said it was impossible to prevent such attacks. "This is a city that can be infiltrated from many different directions. It's simply unbelievable," she said.
Two Palestinian gunmen opened fire in the city on March 9, killing two Israelis, including a baby, and wounding dozens of others.
No Palestinian organization has claimed responsibility for the suicide bombing attack.
