China's Mainland Becomes Taiwan's Largest Export Destination
Statistics released by the Taiwan authorities showed that the mainland has replaced the United States as the island's largest buyer of Taiwan products since last November.
China's mainland remained Taiwan's largest export destination for the third consecutive month in January, reports said Wednesday.
Statistics released by the Taiwan authorities showed that the mainland has replaced the United States as the island's largest buyer of Taiwan products since last November.
Taiwan's exports to the mainland in January was at 2.240 billion U.S.dollars, up 51.8 percent over the same month of 2001, while imports from the mainland rose 1.6 percent to 477 million U.S. dollars.
Two-way trade between the two sides in January was tallied at 2.717 billion U.S. dollars and accounted for 15.9 percent of Taiwan's total trade for that month. The proportion was up 5.7 percent over the same month of last year.
Increased exports of products using LCDs, including notebook computers, monitors and cellular phone were the main contributor to the increase of Taiwan's exports to the mainland, an export official was quoted as saying.
Regarding imports from the mainland, the official noted that coal for industrial use and gifts for Chinese New Year registereda significant increase.
