Tibetan Delegation Visits European Parliament and Belgium
March 25 saw the Delegation of the People's Congress of China's Tibet Autonomous Region pay a friendly visit to European Parliament and Belgium. Raidi, head of the delegation was accorded a warm welcome by the members of the European Parliament and Belgian Parliament.

Raidi, head of the delegation was accorded a warm welcome by the members of the European Parliament and Belgian Parliament at the reception held in the Chinese Embassy in Brussels, Belgium March 25, 2002.
Raidi said at the reception that it was the first time for the delegation to visit the European Parliament and Belgium and also an important opportunity for Tibet region to conduct exchanges. He hoped to deepen mutual understanding and enhance friendship through the visit.
Raidi said :"before the middle of last century, Tibet remained a society of feudal serfdom. I spent 21 years in such a society. It brought great miseries to the masses of people and I had a personal experience. In 1959, Tibet launched a democratic reform and millions of serfs got freedom."
Citing plenty of facts, Raidi introduced the earth shaking changes in Tibet since the implementation of democratic reform. Economy in the region underwent rapid development, modernization construction also achieved great success. GDP in the region in 2001 increased by 35.5 folds over the year 1951, and people's living standard greatly enhanced.
Tibet is a part of China ever since ancient times Raidi stressed. This is history, which is recognized by international community. The Chinese government practices the policy of freedom in religious belief and lawful interests and normal religious activities will get protected by the law Raidi also stressed.
Struan Stevenson(R), member of the European Parliament Group for Relations with China welcomed Tibet delegation's visit. This is a good opportunity for both sides to exchange views, said he. He hoped that the two sides would do more to strengthen contacts, deepen understanding and enhance friendship.

Assembly Leaders from EU, China's Tibet Meet in Brussels
European Parliament President Pat Cox on Tuesday met an assembly delegation from China's Tibet Autonomous Region on Sino-EU ties.
"There are many differences between China and European countries in social system, historical background, cultural tradition and values. The European concepts of human rights are consistent with Europe's history, tradition and reality," said Raidi, head of the delegation and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the People's Congress of Tibet Autonomous Region of China.
