Afghan interim leader Hamid Karzai said Monday in Kabul that relations between Afghanistan and China, two neighboring countries, are excellent and the Chinese people are the best friends of the Afghan people.

Karzai made remarks when he received a Chinese delegation that arrived here Monday morning by the Chinese planes flying the first batch of Chinese assistance to Afghanistan.

He expressed gratitude for China's assistance to Afghanistan, saying that the goods are "very, very good" and are badly needed in the country.

He recalled his visit to China in January this year, and expressed the hope that bilateral relations between the two countries will be further strengthened and the friendship between the two peoples will be further deepened.

The first batch of Chinese assistance to Afghanistan arrived here on Monday morning, as part of the urgent humanitarian assistance worth 30 million yuan (about 3.6 million U.S. dollars) the Chinese government announced that it would provide to the Afghan interim administration, when the latter was established in December last year.

The remainder of the assistance will be flown to Kabul in the next few days, and a delivery ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday.

China to Provide Afghanistan with Police, Army Uniforms
China will provide Afghanistan with 20,000 sets of uniforms and boots for police and 50,000 sets of uniforms and boots for army under documents signed Monday in Kabul.

The Chinese government will also provide the Afghan interim administration with stationery and office supplies for 80,000 civil servants, under the exchange of letters signed by Zhan Min, charge d'affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Afghanistan and Ashraf Ghani, director general of the Office of Coordination of International Assistance of the Afghan interim administration.

The Chinese side will transport the goods to Kabul, and the expenses needed will be covered by the assistance of the 150 million U.S. dollars pledged by the Chinese government to Afghanistan.
