Trade and investment cooperation between Indonesia and China has a promising future, said Indonesian President Megawati Soekarnoputri Monday.
She told a group of Chinese entrepreneurs at an event held by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) that Indonesia and China had developed friendly relations not only in political affairs, but also in fields of industry, trade, investment and tourism.
As members of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Indonesia and China enjoyed a huge potential in trade and economic cooperation and the improving ties between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations would also create a favorable foundation to further Indonesia-China cooperation, she added.
The two countries would have great opportunities to jointly develop oil fields, railways, infrastructure, fishery and tourism, she said.
Zhong Min, vice-chairwoman of the CCPIT, said that both China and Indonesia were populous developing countries with the same goal to develop their domestic economies and great market potential would help boost economic and trade cooperation.
Sino-Indonesian economic and trade relations had witnessed rapid development since the two countries resumed diplomatic relations in 1990, Zhong said.
China-Indonesia trade volume reached 6.7 billion U.S. dollars last year.
