Chinese Company Appeals to WTO Over Alleged Windshield Dumping in US
The US International Trade Commission decided on March 19 by a 3:2 vote to raise from next month tariff on windshields imported from China by 3 percent to 124 percent.
The US International Trade Commission decided on March 19 by a 3:2 vote to raise from next month tariff on windshields imported from China by 3 percent to 124 percent.
This is because the US Department of Commerce announced last month that seven Chinese companies dumped their products to US sellers at a price lower than market price.
Last March, three US windshield producers, PPG Industries Inc, Safelite Glass Corp, and Apogee Enterprises sued Chinese companies for dumping. Then the case was accepted by the US Department of Commerce.
The US imported 649,880 square meters of windshields from China in 1998 at a price of US$26.84 per square meter. By 2000 the price had dropped to US$18.50 per square meter and the import volume increased by four times to reach 2.4 million square meters, according to investigations conducted by the Department.
