China will hold an international procurement fair for transnational retail groups from April 22-24 in Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu Province, according to official sources.
The fair, co-organized by the State Economic and Trade Commission (SETC) and Jiangsu, will be attended by 20 multinational companies, including those listed in the world's 500 top businesses such as Wal-Mart, Carrefour, Metro, Auchan, and Pinault-Printemps-Redoutesa. Some large domestic retail chain stores will also be represented.
Commodities displayed at the fair will include textiles and garments, silk products, shoes and hats, home appliances, sports utilities, electronic and electric products, office utilities and stationery, ornaments, food and drinks, hardware tools and construction materials.
The SETC says an international procurement fair of this nature will help domestic manufacturing enterprises to show their products to well-known transnational companies and become part of the latter's international sales network, become familiar with their requirements in the quality and packaging of goods so as to plan future production, expand export and establish direct ties between the two sides so as to lower procurement costs.
Statistics show that in 2001, China exported nearly 30 billion U.S. dollars worth of goods through the procurement of multinational retail groups, accounting for 12 percent of the country's total commodity export. dollars. Wal-Mart alone procured nearly 10 billion U.S. dollars worth of goods from China.
