A Falun Gong practitioner in northwest China's Liaoning Province has been arrested for killing his wife and badly injuring his teenage daughter, police said Tuesday.
Dong Li, the suspect, a farmer in Chaoyang County who began to practice Falun Gong in 1998, confessed to police that he chopped his wife, Meng Xiurong, and his 14-year-old daughter, Dong Yudan, with a pickaxe at home on the night of February 3.
The police later found that Dong's wife was dead and his daughter badly injured at home.
He also burned recordings, video tapes and diaries about Falun Gong at his home.
Dong Li told police that he committed the act so that his wife and daughter could enter the divine world.
He said that on February 3, he "received" cult leader Li Hongzhi's instruction that the world would be destroyed at the very day. Li's instruction also said that those people who could go up to the heaven before 22:00 would become a god.
After receiving the instruction, Dong said, he killed his wife and daughter so that they could go up to the heaven together with him.
He confessed to the police that, after a month's education in the penitentiary, he realized that what he had done destroyed his family.
After 10 days in hospital, Dong's daughter recovered from her injuries and vowed never to practise Falun Gong again.
