China Mobile Records Profits Increase of 55 Percent in 2001
China Mobile (Hong Kong) Limited (CMHK) announced Monday here that its operating revenue in 2001 reached 100.3 billion yuan (12.1 billion U.S. dollars), representing an increase of 54 percent.
The net profit was 28 billion yuan (3.4 billion U.S. dollars), adding 55 percent over the previous year. In 2001, CMHK's earnings per share stood at l.51 yuan (18 U.S. cents), up 21 percent from the previous year.
Subscriber increased
In 2001, CMHK's subscriber base increased by 24.509 million, totaling 69.643 million subscribers and representing a market share of approximately 72.4 percent, with the total usage volume increasing to 161.27 billion minutes.
Volume of SMS rose
Meanwhile, the total volume of SMS (Short Message Service) exceeded 6 billion messages.
During 2001, CMHK maintained its strong growth owing to the adoption of appropriate business strategies and the huge momentum of the domestic market in the Chinese mainland, Wang Xiaochu, chairman and CEO of CMHK said.
Consolidate position as premier provider
Announcing its 2001 results, Wang noted that CMHK has further consolidated its position as the premier service provider and market leader in mobile telecommunications in the mainland.
Wang revealed that CMHK's acquisition of the mobile telecommunications business in eight mainland provinces and municipalities is in sound progress.
As the acquisition often takes half of year, CMHK will announce the results after going through the capital assessment and other related procedures, he added.
He said that CMHK hopes to enter the capital market in the mainland through CDR (China Depository Receipt), but it requires time to study and review the feasibility.
China Mobile Interim Net Profit Up 58.3 Pct
China Mobile (Hong Kong) Limited (CMHK) announced its 2001 interim results here Thursday, reporting a net profit of RMB 13,809 million (about 13,015 million Hong Kong dollars), up 58.3 percent over the same period in year 2000.
Operating revenue reached RMB 48,864 million (about 46,055 Hong Kong dollars), up 69.1 percent; EBITDA reached RMB 29,176 million (about 27,499 Hong Kong dollars) with an increase of 73.5 percent; and earnings per share increased 15.6 percent to RMB 0.74 (about 0. 70 Hong Kong dollars). In detail
