Liaoning Nails First Home Victory over Dalian 2-0

Despite the absence of its leading players Li Tie and Zhang Yuning, Liaoning celebrated its first home victory 2-0 over defending champion Dalian Shide in a second round match at the Chinese first division soccer league here on Sunday.

Despite the absence of its leading players Li Tie and Zhang Yuning, Liaoning celebrated its first home victory 2-0 over defending champion Dalian Shide in a second round match at the Chinese first division soccer league Sunday in Beijing.

Li Tie, the 2001 Chinese Footballer, was banned for five matches by the Chinese Football Association (CFA) last Tuesday for involving in a scuffle in a first round game while Zhang was sidelined with injuries.

Liaoning, which had moved its host stadium into the provincial capital one month ago, gave no chance to the six-time league champion Shide.

Wang Xinxin, a national youth team forward, found the net on a rebound from the spot kick by Zhao Junzhe on the 22nd minute and Li Jinyu headed home with a left pass by Zhang Kao in the last minute.

Shide, which had lost to Liaoning in the opening round in 1999 and led to an up-and-down season, now accumulated two losses as its first defeat was handed by Shenzhen Ping'an at home turf last Sunday.

Wang Hongli, head coach of Liaoning Bird, said: "We've played a very good match today while Dalian seemed in a difficult period."

Milorad Kosanovic, head coach of Shide, said: "I have nothing to say."

Results of other teams
In other second-round matches played on Sunday, Qingdao edged 2- 1 over Shandong Luneng, Beijing Guo'an had a scoreless tie with Yunnan Hongtanshan, Sichuan came from behind to tie Shannxi Guoli 1-1 and Bayi drew with Shanghai Shenhua 0-0.

Tianjin Taida drew with Chongqing Lifan 2-2 earlier on Saturday.
