The Belgrade military court on Saturday released Serbian deputy Prime Minister Momcilo Perisic, who was arrested early Friday on charges of espionage and handing over military secrets.

A Yugoslav army lieutenant colonel and a civil servant arrested together with Perisic were also freed. Belgrade military prosecutors will make a formal indictment against the three, said a court statement.

The Yugoslav army said in a statement that the detention of Perisic was made in accordance with Yugoslav laws.

The army said Lieutenant colonel Miodrag Sekulic had been found delivering to Perisic confidential documents about Yugoslavia's national defense, some of which the former chief of staff of the Yugoslav army later passed on to a foreign citizen.

Yugoslavia's military security has obtained evidence pointing to their acts of espionage, and the judicial authorities of the Yugoslav military will take further action against them, it said.

Perisic, leader of the Serbian Democratic Movement, is also the chairman of the Security Committee of the Yugoslav parliament. He was the chief of the general staff of the Yugoslav army in 1993- 1998.
