The Sudanese army officers, who are in Gulu, northern Ugandan, as part of the joint liaison team of the two countries' armed forces, on Friday toured Nimule and Bibia border towns, newspaper New Vision reported on Saturday.

Nimule is controlled by rebel leader John Garang's Sudanese People's Liberation Army (SPLA). Bibia is on the side of Uganda and is controlled by the 4th division of the Uganda People's Defense Forces (UPDF).

The Sudanese team led by Brig. Ibrahim Eseldin, during their tour of Nimule town, was accompanied by the UPDF 4th division intelligence officer, James Kaija. Later the team was met at Bibia by the 4th division commander Geoffry Muheesi.

Brig. Nyakairima Aronda, the overall operations commander of the UPDF mission to rescue the children captured by the Lord Resistance Army (LRA) rebels in southern Sudan, was quoted as saying "they toured both sides of the border. We want them to feel free and see things for themselves."

The joint liaison team in Gulu was formed this week following the signing of a protocol between the two countries.
