A parcel containing some rockets exploded during a security check at the airport of Rajkot of west India's Gujarat state Saturday morning, hours before it was to be loaded on a Jet Airways flight for Mumbai, police said.
The explosion, which occurred at 5:50 am in the porch outside the airport, caused no casualty but the airport structure was damaged, they said.
According to the Press Trust of India, primary investigation revealed that the parcel was received from Gandhidham in Kutch district for dispatch to a Mumbai-based shipping company.
The parcel contained eight rockets with shells and four smoke signals, used as emergency signals by the marine services to seek help in mid-sea while in trouble, police said.
