A computer hacker in central China's Hubei Province was sentenced Friday to one-year imprisonment for causing damage to the computer systems of some Internet content providers.
The Court of Jiang'an District of this capital of Hubei found Wang Qun to have invaded a job service website and mischievously changed its homepage into a national five-star flag with the announcement, "Welcome to join the China Hackers' Alliance." Wang's invasion disabled the website.
Wang was also accused of sneaking through weak points of several other websites and altering the homepages, leading to their closedown or operational disorder.
The court held that Wang's conduct had constituted the crime of damaging computer systems.
Wang expressed regret for his conduct, which he described as a result from curiosity, after hearing his sentence.
