A Palestinian militant was killed and two others were seriously injured on Thursday as an Israeli army Apache helicopter raided village of Aanabta in east of the West Bank town of Tulkarem, Palestinian eyewitnesses said.
The witnesses said that an Israeli helicopter flew over the village and fired three missiles at a chicken farm, killing Mu'tasim Makhloof, 25, and wounding two others in the farm.
Palestinian security sources said that Makhloof is an officer of the Palestinian preventive security, but Israel says he is also a member of the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, the armed wing of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's Fatah movement.
Medical sources in Tulkarem said that Makhloof was taken to the hospital torn into pieces, adding that the two wounded were in serious conditions.
U.S. Middle East envoy Anthony Zinni is to return to the region to try to help Israel and the Palestinians end the over 17 months of bloodshed, reach a ceasefire agreement and resume peace negotiations.
Israel Radio said that Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon announced that the Israeli army would end on Thursday afternoon its offensive against the West Bank town of Ramallah. The Israeli army occupied all Ramallah on Tuesday.
