56 Nationalities Are Members Of the Same Family
When I had a good talk with CPPCC members from the minority ethnic groups and in the religious circle, they said that the international situation was volatile last year, with some regions being in turbulence, whereas China witnessed economic development and social progress, an important reason for this is that China enjoys social stability and national unity.
When I had a good talk with CPPCC members from the minority ethnic groups and in the religious circle, they said that the international situation was volatile last year, with some regions being in turbulence, whereas China witnessed economic development and social progress, an important reason for this is that China enjoys social stability and national unity.
National unity is an important foundation for the development and progress of a country. Many of the hot spots and hot issues in the world today are associated with the issue of nationalities. By combining the basic principles of Marxist theory on nationalities with the actuality of China's ethnic issue, our Party has put forward a series of correct policies on ethnic groups and has put them into practice. It should be said that China is one of the most successful countries in handling the issue of nationalities. In China, "national unity" is not a slogan. The Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Chinese government pay great attention to ethnic work and extend all-out support for economic development in minority nationality regions, the people of various ethnic groups live in harmony and help each other.
Some CPPCC members from minority ethnic groups said with deep feeling that the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) is the broadest patriotic united front, members from various ethnic groups gathered together to participate in the administration and discussions of state affairs in a democratic atmosphere, this fact itself demonstrates the equality, solidarity and fraternity of various ethnic groups.
Alatan Jiaoqir, a CPPCC member from the Mongolian ethnic group, listed a string of figures to describe the development and achievements gained in recent years by the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Wahafu Sulaiman, a CPPCC member from the Kazak ethnic group, revealed that after several years of efforts, Xinjiang has delivered 1.32 million people out of poverty, the per-capita net income of farmers and herdsmen in 30 poverty-stricken counties and cities of the region has been greatly increased. Meng Surong, a CPPCC member from Daur ethnic group, told a short story about how several foreign friends she knows are reluctant to leave because they admire China's stability.
CPPCC members said the 56 ethnic groups share joy and sorrow, depend on each other and share a common fate, their hearts are linked together, none of them can be without the other, this thought has gone increasingly deep into the hearts of the people.
Since the initiation of the reform and opening-up policy in 1978, the Party Central Committee has regarded economic development as the key link in boosting ethnic work, it clearly pointed out that without economic prosperity and social progress of the minority ethnic groups and in the minority ethnic regions, there would be no flourishing, growth and civilization of the entire country; and without the modernization of the minority ethnic groups and the minority ethnic regions, the modernization of the whole of China would be out of the question. At the turn of the century, the State started implementing the strategy of westbound development, this has not only injected fresh vigor into the economic development and comprehensive social progress of the minority ethnic regions, but also has enriched the content of national unity.
Fifty-six ethnic groups resemble 56 flowers, and brothers and sisters of the 56 nationalities are of the same family. In the long historical course, people of all ethnic groups have jointly written the a history of the splendid civilization of the Chinese nation and commonly safeguarded the unification of the country. As we look into the future, we have every reason to believe that so long as the people of all Chinese nationalities unite as one man and help one another, they will be able, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, to create a better future featuring the prosperity and flourishing of the Chinese nation.
