US Vice-President Discuss Anti-Terror War With British Prime Minister
British Prime Minister Tony Blair said Tackling weapons of mass destruction remains a priority in the war against terrorism but no decisions have been taken on how to tackle this threat.
British Prime Minister Tony Blair said Tackling weapons of mass destruction remains a priority in the war against terrorism but no decisions have been taken on how to tackle this threat.
The prime minister made the comments at a press conference at Downing Street Monday afternoon following talks with visiting U.S. Vice-President Dick Cheney.
"No decisions have been taken on how we deal with this threat," Blair said. "But there is a threat from Saddam Hussein and the weapons of mass destruction that he has acquired."
The British prime minister's certainty about the threat posed by Iraq was shared by Cheney. Both men emphasized the importance of a continuing close relationship between Britain and the U.S.
Cheney and Blair discussed the progress of the coalition formed in the wake of the U.S. terror atrocities, as well as other issues such as U.S. tariffs on steel imports, the BBC reported.
The meeting between the two came amid increasing speculation about military action against Iraq.
Blair faces growing domestic unease over military action against Iraq with many Labor MPs among the 70 who have signed a motion opposing such an action.
