U.S. President Vows to Expand Anti-terror War Beyond Afghanistan
U.S. President George W. Bush vowed on Monday to expand the current war on terrorism beyond Afghanistan, saying the "second stage" of the war is "a sustained campaign to deny sanctuary to terrorists."
U.S. President George W. Bush vowed on Monday to expand the current war on terrorism beyond Afghanistan, saying the "second stage" of the war is "a sustained campaign to deny sanctuary to terrorists."
"We have entered the second stage of the war on terror: a sustained campaign to deny sanctuary to terrorists who would threaten our citizens from anywhere in the world," he said at a White House ceremony marking the six month anniversary of the September 11 attacks.
There must be "no refuge" and "no safe heaven" for terrorists, Bush said, calling on the nation not to give up in its fight against terrorism.
Bush said the United States will help Yemen in training and equipment to fight against terrorism. The U.S. has already sent 500 troops to the Philippines to help the country in its war against the anti-government rebels which the U.S. said were related to the al Qaeda terrorism network.
