China Monday vowed to host the best ever World Exposition in 2010, with a stable society and a fast developing economy as its backing.
State Councilor Wu Yi stated this when she made a presentation to the Bureau of International Expositions' (BIE) delegation headed by Carmen Sylvain, BIE vice president and chairwoman of the Executive Committee.
Wu, who heads the Chinese Committee working towards the bid for the 2010 World Exposition, made a solemn commitment that the Chinese government guarantees the strict implementation of all convention regulations relating to international exhibitions.
China would take measures to ensure the safety of the participants and their exhibits and to facilitate their entry into Chinese territory, and would offer favorable conditions to developing countries.
China to make new contribution to World Expo
The Chinese government would also give financial guarantees to the 2010 World Exposition, she said.
Wu said that China is an ancient country with a 5000-year history and an impressive civilization, and the peace-loving Chinese people hope to promote contacts with their foreign friends by hosting the 2010 World Exposition.
She noted that holding the World Exposition in China would further relations and cooperation between China and other countries in the economic, trade and scientific fields. It would also make a big impact and increase the status of the World Exposition, she added.
The state councilor said that the Chinese government is a responsible one, and the Chinese people are hospitable, thus China would hold the best and the most memorable World Exposition.
Vice Foreign Minster Wang Guangya and Vice Finance Minister Jin Liqun hoped that China would host the 2010 World Exposition as it would enable China to make a new contribution to world prosperity.
They promised to behave according to protocol and to offer financial support to the 2010 World Exposition.
They said that Shanghai is a model city which shows the results of China's reform and opening-up policy, and with ongoing economic growth and social progress, China is confident and capable of hosting the 2010 World Exposition successfully.
BIE praises China's determination & confidence
Carmen Sylvain said that she has realized the strong support given by the Chinese government and people to the hosting of the 2010 World Exposition, as well as their determination and confidence in their bid.
She expressed gratitude for the efforts China has made while applying for the 2010 World Exposition bid.
Chinese officials gave answers to queries raised by the delegation.
World Expositions are defined by the Bureau international des expositions / International bureau of expositions ( B.I.E ) as a forum for the exchange of information which fosters better understanding amongst people. Each nation is invited to share its ideas and to demonstrate the progress it has achieved on a theme determined by the exposition organizer.
The B.I.E., a Paris-based organization of 88 member nations, regulates the frequency and quality of World expositions.
China Supports Shanghai in Bidding for World Expo 2010
The Chinese government gives full support to Shanghai in its bidding to host the World Exposition 2010, Chinese Ambassador to France Wu Jianmin said in December, 2001.
Wu made the remarks at the general assembly of the Bureau on International Exposition (BIE), at which cities from six countries presented their candidatures for the universal event. "It's a formal engagement that my government has taken...It will give full support to the municipality of Shanghai in its efforts in making World Expo 2010 a full success," said the ambassador. >>details
