China, Russia Agree to Maintain Disarmament Treaties

China and Russia discussed the current system of international treaties for arms control and disarmament during a strategic consultation recently, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Kong Quan said Thursday.

China and Russia discussed the current system of international treaties for arms control and disarmament during a strategic consultation recently, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Kong Quan said Thursday.

Kong told a routine press conference that the vice ministers of foreign affairs of China and Russia met Wednesday and agreed that faced with the current international situation, safeguarding the existing system of international treaties on arms control and disarmament and maintaining strategic global stability have become extremely important for continued world peace and stability.

Kong said the two sides exchanged views on such major issues as international security and the process of international arms control and disarmament.

He said the two sides would continue to hold close consultations on these issues.
