The National Association for Freelance Journalists (NAFJ) has urged the media institutions to finalize the draft code of ethical practice to regulate professional performance of the media before the government imposes its own, the Zimbabwe Inter-Africa News Agency reported on Saturday.

Local journalists should have a common rallying point of national issues and values that include an understanding of the land issue, NAFJ President Simbarashe Tshuma was quoted as saying.

He said the press should not publish lies about Zimbabwe and should stop demonizing any head of state of the country at any one time.

He also encouraged journalists to cover the forthcoming presidential elections to be impartial, ethical and objective.
