Floating sand dust stirred up by cold air swept northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region Friday night, the first of this year in the region, causing some difficulties for local people.

According to the records made by the Ningxia Observatory Saturday morning, the air visibility of Yinchuan, the regional capital, was less than 6,000 meters and the wind scale was 4.

A local meteorologist said that the three deserts surrounding the central and north parts of Ningxia are the main cause of floating sand dust weather in the region.

Meteorologists estimated that Ningxia will see worse dusty weather this year than previous years, due to higher temperatures and drought.

The ongoing floating sand dust weather is expected to end tonight.
