Norwegian Chief Truce Monitor Arrives in Sri Lanka
Norwegian chief monitor Trond Furuhovde arrived in Sri Lanka on Saturday to start monitoring a permanent ceasefire between the government and separatist Tamil Tiger rebels following the signing of a truce agreement, officialssaid.

Furuhovde, a retired army general, held talks with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe shortly after his arrival here, theysaid.
It is reported that prior to his arrival Furuhovde held talks with chief negotiator and theoretician of the Liberation Tigers ofTamil Eelam (LTTE) Anton Balasingham in London regarding truce monitoring in the country.
Last week Wickremesinghe signed a permanent ceasefire agreementwith LTTE leader Vellupillai Prabhakaran which will hopefully leadto direct talks between the two sides.
According to the agreement, a 16-member monitoring team comprising members from Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Finland as well as local members nominated by the government and LTTE rebels will start their monitoring mission in the country.
