Sino-Kazakhstan Port Opens to Third Country

Sino-Kazakhstan Jeminay Port, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, opened to any other country Friday, local sources say.

Sino-Kazakhstan Jeminay Port, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, opened to any other country Friday, local sources say.

The hundred year old port, located in north Xinjiang's Altay Prefecture, is the nearest Chinese port to Kazakhstan.

Since the port re-opened in 1992 exports and imports have totaled 220 million U.S. dollars, an average annual increase of 28.8 percent.

The port is allowed to handle up to 500,000 tons of cargo and 100,000 passengers annually.
