On Friday the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (MOFTEC) will launch an anti-dumping investigation into EU-imported catechol, a chemical material used as an antiseptic or as a photographic developer.

In keeping with China's regulations on anti-dumping, the MOFTEC investigation is to decide whether dumping actually took place and if so to what extent.

In the meantime, the State Economic and Trade Commission will investigate any damage done to China's industries by the alleged dumping.

According to MOFTEC sources, the dumping was reported by a chemical plant in Lianyungang city, Jiangsu Province in east China, on behalf of China's catechol industry.
