British Prime Minister Tony Blair Thursday gave support to US President George W. Bush's tough stand on Iraqi President Saddam Hussein's government, singling out the country as a threat to world stability.

In an interview with Australia's ABC television, Blair said he agreed with the sentiment behind US President George W. Bush's description of Iraq as being part of an "axis of evil."

"I certainly agree with him (Bush) very strongly that weapons of mass destruction represent a real threat to world stability," said Blair, who will attend a Commonwealth summit in Australia from March 2 to 5.

The development of such weapons was "a real threat," Blair told ABC, adding that "George Bush is right to draw attention to that...It is important that we act against them."

Asked if Britain was ready to use force against Iraq, Blair said,"When we're ready to take action then we'll announce it. It is a real issue. It is a real threat. How we deal with it is an open matter."

A British newspaper reported Sunday that the prime minister would fly to Washington in April to talk with Bush about Iraq and the next phase of the war on terrorism.
