Jiang Zemin Meets Former General Secretaries of CPV Central
The fruitful exchanges between the young people of China and Vietnam will help the younger generation to take on and carry forward the traditional friendship between the two countries, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Jiang Zemin said during his meetings with former heads of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Thursday morning.

Jiang, also the Chinese president, met with former General Secretaries of the CPV Central Committee Do Muoi and Le Kha Phieu respectively in Hanoi this morning.
During his meeting with Do Muoi, Jiang said he has reached broad consensus on continuing to push forward the development of bilateral relations with Nong Duc Manh, general secretary of the CPV Central Committee, and Vietnamese President Tran Duc Luong. He said in the spirit of "increasing mutual trust, orienting towards the future, " he and the new Vietnamese leaders frankly exchanged views on implementing the principle guiding the development of bilateral relations Wednesday. Both sides expressed the confidence that they will work together to push forward the development of bilateral relations under the new situation so as to make active contributions to the peace, stability and development of the region and the world.
He thanked Muoi for making historic contributions to the normalization of Sino-Vietnamese relations and for playing an important role in properly resolving the left-over problems between the two countries.
During his meeting with Le Kha Phieu, Jiang said during Phieu's visit to China in 1992, they jointly set the principle guiding the development of bilateral relations in the new century. He highly praised the contribution that Phieu made to Sino-Vietnamese friendship and the long-term, stable development of bilateral relations.
Jiang said he is pleased to see the good momentum of bilateral relations. He said the exchanges between the young people of the two countries have obtained satisfactory results. This is good forthe younger generation to take on and carry forward the traditional friendship between China and Vietnam.
Muoi appreciated the important contribution that Jiang made to the resumption and development of the friendly relations between the two parties and two countries. He expressed the belief that under the joint efforts of the two sides on the basis of mutual trust, the two sides will realize the relations of comradeship and fraternity as foreseen by late President Ho Chi Minh of Vietnam and Chairman Mao Zedong of China.
He said the Vietnamese side regards the victory of China and the CPC as its own victory. He said China will see even greater development after the convention of the 16th National Congress of the CPC later this year.
Phieu said the two parties and two countries should always trust each other. On this basis, the two sides will not only become good neighbors and good friends, but also be good comrades and good brothers.
Eearlier this morning, Jiang laid wreath at the Mausoleum of President Ho Chi Minh and paid respect to the remains of Ho Chi Minh in Hanoi.
