Lila Ratsifandrihamanana, Madagascar's foreign minister in the government serving incumbent President Didier Ratsiraka, resigned on Wednesday, reported the Madagascan Television (MTV).

When explaining her resignation, Ratsifandrihamanana deplored the rejection of Ratsiraka to compare official results of December's first round of presidential elections to the results announced by opposition leader Marc Ravalomanana.

She also regretted the failure of the talks brokered by the Organization of African Unity (OAU) to resolve the election disputes between the two camps.

Ratsifandrihamanana is the second minister from the Party of Congress of Independence of Madagascar (AKFM) to present her resignation.

Ny Hasina Andriamanjato, Minister of Post and Telecommunication, also from the AKFM, has resigned Thursday for "health reasons".

Ravalomanana, who claimed victory of the first round of presidential elections, declared himself president on Friday and named Jacques Sylla his premier minister on Tuesday.

Ratsiraka chaired a meeting of his cabinet on Wednesday morning. No details about the meeting are announced.
