China's
Ministry of Personnel
officially promulgated and began putting into effect a code of conduct for China's civil servants on Wednesday.
Zhang Xuezhong, minister of personnel, said that the code aims to improve the efficiency of the government and society's moral standards by raising the caliber of its civil servants.
"Since China's entry into the WTO it has become more urgent for us to have a code of conduct in order to create a better investment environment," said Zhang.
The code requires civil servants to serve the country and the people wholeheartedly, carry out their administrative duties according to the law and to maintain their personal integrity.
Zhang asked the press to monitor the implementation of the code.
