Jiang Aims to Enhance Friendship Through Visit to Vietnam
Chinese top leader Jiang Zemin said that his visit to Vietnam will further enhance the mutual trust, friendship and cooperation between the two countries and the two peoples.

Jiang, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Chinese president, arrived in Hanoi Wednesday noon, starting an official goodwill visit to Vietnam at the invitation of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee Nong Duc Manh and Vietnamese President Tran Duc Luong.
"We are very pleased to see the relations between the two parties and the two countries have made fresh progress in all aspects," Jiang said in a written statement at the airport.
In the statement, he expressed the belief that his visit will further enhance the mutual trust, friendship and cooperation between the two countries, the two peoples and the communist parties of China and Vietnam. The visit will also help promote the common prosperity and development of the two countries and make contributions to peace, stability and development in the region and the world.
Jiang will hold talks with Nong Duc Manh and Tran Duc Luong later Wednesday. They will exchange views on Sino-Vietnamese relations and issues of common concern in an extensive way.
