Vietnamese newspapers Wednesday welcome the visit to Vietnam by General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Chinese President Jiang Zemin.

Vietnamese party's daily Nhan Dan said in its editorial "New Height of Vietnam-China Traditional Friendship" that the visit strongly affirms the determination of leaders and peoples of the two countries to take the bilateral ties to a new height in the 21st century.
Nhan Dan noted that the two neighbour countries have a long-term traditional relationship, which was built and forged by late Chairman Mao Zedong and President Ho Chi Minh, as well as other leaders of the older generations of both countries in the revolutionary struggles for independence and liberation.
The principle of "long-term stability, future orientation, friendly neighborliness, multi-faceted cooperation" set by the leaders in February 1999 is a fundamental and long-term orientation for developing the relationship between the two countries, marking a new stage of Vietnam-China relationship, noted Nhan Dan.
The party daily also praised great successes achieved by the Chinese people in the socialist construction and modernization.
The Vietnamese army daily Quan Doi Nhan Dan said that the visitis a new milestone in the history of the long-time traditional friendship between Vietnam and China.
It expressed its confidence that Jiang's visit will get fine success, opening a fine new stage for Vietnam-China relationship.
Hanoi Moi, the Hanoi municipal party committee's daily, also praised Jiang's visit saying it will create spring vigor for Vietnam-China friendship.
The English daily Vietnam News said with confidence that the visit will further strengthen the traditional relationship, meeting the aspirations of both peoples and serving the cause of national construction in both countries.
Jiang's official goodwill is scheduled from Wednesday to Friday at the invitations of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Nong Duc Manh and Vietnamese State President Tran Duc Luong.
