High Expectations for Jiang's Visit to Vietnam
Chinese President Jiang Zemin's impending visit to Vietnam will accelerate the development of Sino-Vietnamese relations in the 21st century, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan.

He said the visit which begins on Wednesday, will have great significance and a profound influence on bilateral ties between the two neighboring countries, which normalized relations in 1991.
Jiang, also the general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, is making the three-day official goodwill visit at the invitation of the general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nong Duc Manh and the Vietnamese President Tran Duc Luong.
During the visit, the three will exchange views on significant world and regional issues, as well as on how to further promote Sino-Vietnamese ties, Kong said at a regular press conference on Tuesday.
Heads of state of the two countries have carried out frequent visits over the past decade, and have signed four joint communiques and three joint declarations, he said.
Bilateral trade has increased 90 fold in the 1991-2001 period, during which time great co-operative progress was made in the fields of culture, science and technology, education and justice, he added.
